Helping Businesses Succeed!

What is the Anatomy of a Successful Business?

We have discovered that most small businesses, regardless of their service or product, seem to succeed based on some fundamentals universal to all businesses. Otherwise known as "Best Practices". Every business should have "Best Practices" that the entire staff is familiar with. Every business has a means to compare themselves to their nearest competitors. And nearly every industry has "Support Groups" which are business owners that will meet to share their "Best Practices" with one another.

Business coaching is also a commonplace for many business owners today. Call us and we'd be happy to discuss this topic in greater detail. We can even refer you to some Business coaching organizations in your local area.

What Does It Take to Build and Sustain a Successful Business?

1. Pursue a niche. The best small businesses have a defined niche. Every business must identify a unique value proposition in order to flourish. It doesn't have to be unusual. But you must be able to identify how you can leverage your business by pursuing a niche. (Being a generalist does not work).

2. Use metrics to measure your progress and results. That which is measured delivers good results. That which is measured and reported delivers excellent results. A company culture that produces and reports its results to one another will likely have a very productive staff. Employee satisfaction will grow stronger, turnover will decrease and individual fulfillment is more likely met.

3. Develop a qualified team to pursue the business. Do not work in areas of your business that lend to your weaknesses. Hire others to manage those parts of your business. As much as you can, hire people with the proper skills and management capacity to work on facets of the business that lend to their strengths. Try to compensate the staff in ways to keeps them focused on the companies desired outcome. If you are not passionate about your work, don't do it! Most of the time employees are hired because both parties thought that their skills and personality was a good match for the job. Many employees are laid off or leave their employment because they are not a good fit, therefore performance drops. Leaving for more money is usually a secondary reason for job terminations.

4. Set a specific goal for all to focus on and work until you achieve your goal. It is very important that your staff understands your plan. And then work THE PLAN.

We encourage your calls to discuss ways to improve your business. We don't guarantee "the answers" but we find it most helpful to openly discuss issues that business owners & their staff are concerned about. Good solutions are often thought processes that evolve to the correct answers.
